THE BEEF ROLLS INTO FARMFAIR INTERNATIONAL!
Paralympic athlete to give motivational speech
Farmfair International, one of Canada’s premiere showcases for livestock, kicks off a new week with 4-H Family Day on Monday, November 9th. Thousands of 4-H members and their families are expected to visit Farmfair International for numerous beef and equine events and seminars.
At 2:00 PM, Olympic Paralympian Karen Brain will give a motivational speech to 4-H members and their families. Karen was first introduced to riding when she was just eight years old, and quickly became one of Canada’s top riders. She won the Canadian Open 3-day Event Championships in 1998, and represented Canada at the World Equestrian Games, and at the 2000 Olympic Games. But a riding accident in 2001 left Karen partially paralyzed, forcing her to change the course of her life and successful equestrian career.
Karen channeled her focus to Para-Dressage, and quickly emerged as a talented competitor in that discipline too, winning two bronze medals at the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens, and representing Canada at the 2008 Paralympic Games in Hong Kong. She is one of the few athletes to attain the highest level of competition in both able-bodied and Para-Equestrian sports, and her journey to recovery and eventual success is an inspirational story.
